Vans Design Description
In this project, students were to create a vans shoe design that represented either art, music, local flavor, or action sports. They were to draft out sketches, get them critiqued, and finally revised until they reached a stage they were proud of. With the final design, students submitted them to their teacher who along with another art teacher chose the best design for each type of shoe. Those selected would receive a pair of vans and enter the official vans design contest.
I decided to do my design on local flavor. We live in California, United States of America, the land of freedom, rights, opportunities, and dreams. So I wanted one of my main concepts to be about being the "land of the dreamers". When I think of dreams, I think of wishes, and when I think of wishes, I think of dandelions being blown into the air. So I drew that in the front but it would be awkward if I just had a dandelion being blown without a blower. Since California is known for Disneyland, I drew a silhouette of Mickey Mouse blowing it. Going back to the United States, this country is a country of immigrants from all over. I wanted to represent those different countries by drawing their flags overlapping one another. Even though art is definitely not of my best subjects, I think it turned out pretty OK. The meaning is a lot stronger than the actual drawing though.
