As an introductory project, students were to create an 11x14 inch pennant. This pennant would have a quote that inspires them drawn in a creative way. On the back of the pennant, the student would write what they are excited for senior year which would have to include a mathematical expression embedded in the sentence.
Reflection
"Behind every successful woman is herself." - Bart Jackson I found this quote on Pinterest and immediately loved it. As someone who likes to keep themselves busy and push themselves, I find this quote very inspiring and motivational. In a world where men are commonly known as the leaders (e.g. all the US presidents) and the successful ones (considering the wage gap between women and men) this really proves that woman can be just as successful. Women can be just a great leader as a man and be just as successful. I am not trying to be a feminist or bring down men. This quote just makes me believe that anyone can be successful if they push themselves and work for it. In that sense, I want others to believe so too. Especially other girls who might still be wrapped in that old social thought. With this quote, I hope to motivate others in believing that success (no matter how you see it) is out there for everyone if they're willing to put the effort behind it. As the senior year begins, I hope to use this quote to push me into reaching high. This includes taking challenging courses, finding an amazing internship aligned with my ambitions, and studying hard for these last college entrance exams. I need to keep myself focus and keep working hard to succeed.
First Draft
I started by simply writing the quote and found myself with a lot of blank space. I started wondering, "what do you think of when you think of a successful woman"? The first thing that popped up was the iconic image for the quote "We Can Do It!". It shows the strength woman have. So that's what I ended up using.
Final Draft
I was rather satisfied with my first draft so I didn't change it a whole lot. However, my peers and I thought it would be neat to incorporate the colors from the original "We Can Do It" image which are blue, red, and yellow. I didn't want to add it to the image itself so I decided to incorporate it in the lettering.
For the mathematical expression, it is a little hard to read on the image but here is what I wrote: For senior year I am excited to see what colleges accept and start gaining exposures to traditional college lectures by enrolling into
